SSAT Foundation History
The history of the SSAT Foundation truly starts with the founding of the parent organization, the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, which, to this day, remains the only North American organization focused on surgical problems of the entire alimentary tract. The SSAT Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract. The Foundation was established in 2000 to help the Society achieve its ongoing mission: to stimulate, foster, and provide surgical leadership in the art and science of patient care; to promote and support the education and research of the diseases and functions of the alimentary tract; to provide a forum for the presentation of such research and educational endeavors; and to foster training and funding opportunities and scientific publications in support of these activities. 2013 Residents and Fellows Research Conference Presentation Awards
The SSAT Residents and Fellows Research Conference, funded by the Foundation, is a daylong session held annually in conjunction with Digestive Disease Week, at which the residents and fellows who serve as the presenting authors of the highest ranked abstracts from the Annual Meeting are given the opportunity to present their own work and hear and discuss the work of their colleagues from around the world.
