I want to thank all of the members of the SSAT for their hard work over the past year, but particularly our leadership in regards to our strategic planning committee efforts led by Dr. Fabrizio Michelassi, the chair of our board. SSAT 57th Annual Meeting at Digestive Disease Week 2016
The SSAT Annual Meeting is held in conjunction with Digestive Disease Week (DDW). DDW is the world’s largest gathering of physicians and researchers in the fields of gastroenterology, hepatology, endoscopy and gastrointestinal surgery. The SSAT Annual Meeting will take place in San Diego, CA from May 21-24, 2016. More...

SSAT Award, Fellowship, and Scholarship Deadlines
The SSAT offers a total of nine Awards, Fellowships, and Scholarships that focus on Career Development and Research. These awards include up to two Traveling Fellowships for Surgeons in Developing Nations; the Career Development Award; the ACS/SSAT Health Policy and Management Scholarship; the Fischer International Traveling Fellowship for Surgeons in Academic Practice; the Career Development Award for Clinical/Outcomes/Education Research; up to five Writers Workshop Scholarships; the Health Care Disparities Research Award; the DeMeester Traveling Fellowship for Surgeons within the U.S. or Canada; and up to two Mentored Research Awards. In addition to these nine awards the SSAT also recognizes outstanding individuals in the fields of surgical education and clinical surgery. More...

The SSAT offers CME credits through the Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery! The JOGS Online CME Program is a benefit for SSAT Members, who can gain access to JOGS and the CME program through the SSAT Members Only Area. More...

SSAT GI Surgery Fall Conference
The SSAT will conduct a stand-alone educational conference in Miami, Florida, December 2 – 3, 2016. This event will be very clinically focused, and encourage audience participation and interaction. The conference will be organized into three tracks: Foregut/Bariatrics, HPB, and Colorectal, and CME credits with self-assessment, good towards the ABS’ Maintenance of Certification Part 2 requirements, will be offered. New Medical Student Membership Category
At the 2015 SSAT Annual Business Meeting, the SSAT membership voted to initiate the new Medical Student membership category. Medical Student members must be in good standing at an LCME accredited institution or equivalent body. Medical Student members pay only a one-time 20 USD initiation fee, with no annual dues for the tenure of their medical school education. More...
