Our SSAT strategic plan has three major initiatives and key task force recommendations:
  • Establishing and leading a task force on advanced GI surgical training. This effort has been led by SSAT Board Chair and Past President Dr. Fabrizio Michelassi.

  • Developing a clinically based course/meeting outside of the standard DDW conference. President-elect Dr. Nathaniel Soper has taken the lead responsibility for this.

  • Developing an international strategy for both recruitment of members and establishing an SSAT footprint for global impact on education, clinical programs, and membership.

Cameron Guest Oration. His lecture, “Mastering the Challenges of Leading Change,” is scheduled for Sunday, May 22, 2016, from 11:00 AM - 11:45 AM, in Room 28AB of the San Diego Convention Center. Dr. Fabrizio Michelassi, SSAT Chair, has selected Dr. Bruce L. Gewertz, the surgeon-in-chief, chair of the department of surgery, vice president for interventional services, vice dean of academic affairs and H&S Nichols Distinguished Chair in Surgery at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, CA, for the 2016 Maja and Frank G. Moody State-of-the-Art Lecture. His lecture, “The Best Medicine: Leadership Lessons for Work and Life,” is scheduled for Monday, May 23, 2016, from 11:00 AM - 11:45 AM, in Room 28AB of the San Diego Convention Center.
