SSAT Foundation Chair's Message
2016 marks another year that the SSAT Foundation was able to support both young and established surgeons through the granting of seven major awards. The SSAT Foundation held its 2nd Annual Awards Reception during the SSAT 57th Annual Meeting at DDW2016. At the Reception the Foundation gave out 161,500 USD to the recipients of the 2016 Awards. The reception was highlighted by a silent auction that included items donated by SSAT members—such as a weekend in a Midtown Manhattan condominium, prime seats to sporting events, and even a stay on Cape Cod. These donated items are a great way to make a contribution to the SSAT Foundation, all the while receiving the tax benefits of a donation. At the SSAT 58th Annual Meeting at DDW 2017 in Chicago, IL, we hope to have an even better auction! We are counting on the SSAT membership to think creatively of items that they could donate for the charity auction. If you are interested in supporting the SSAT Foundation, this is a great way to do so. Please contact the society office at ssat@ssat.com for further information. More...

SSAT Foundation History
The history of the SSAT Foundation truly starts with the founding of the parent organization, the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, which, to this day, remains the only North American organization focused on surgical problems of the entire alimentary tract. The SSAT Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract. The Foundation was established in 2000 to help the Society achieve its ongoing mission: to stimulate, foster, and provide surgical leadership in the art and science of patient care; to promote and support the education and research of the diseases and functions of the alimentary tract; to provide a forum for the presentation of such research and educational endeavors; and to foster training and funding opportunities and scientific publications in support of these activities.
