2016 Traveling Fellowships

The Foundation provides support for the Carol and Tom R. DeMeester Traveling Fellowship for Surgeons within the U.S. or Canada and the Karen and Josef E. Fischer International Traveling Fellowship for Surgeons in Academic Practice.

DeMeester Traveling Fellowship for Surgeons within the U.S. or Canada

The goal of this traveling fellowship is to promote interaction and learning among SSAT members within the United States or Canada. The travelling fellow, selected by the SSAT Continuing Education Committee, visits a University-affiliated or academic practice of his/her choosing, within the United States or Canada, for a period of six to ten days, under the sponsorship of a Society member at the hosting institution. The Foundation provides a stipend of up to $3,500 to the Traveling Fellow.

Steven C. Cunningham, MD The recipient of the 2016 DeMeester Traveling Fellowship for Surgeons within the U.S. or Canada is Steven C. Cunningham, M.D. of Saint Agnes Hospital Center in Baltimore, MD.

Fischer International Traveling Fellowship for Surgeons in Academic Practice

The goal of this traveling fellowship is to promote interaction and learning among junior academic surgeons in the SSAT with surgical units overseas. One awardee each year, selected by the SSAT Continuing Education Committee, is funded to visit International GI Surgery units and an International Meeting. The Foundation provides a stipend of up to $5,000 to the Traveling Fellow.
